It takes a very special kind of magic to create an inspiring film documentary that shows the empowerment of people working together to heal the elements rather than just protesting against the destruction of the planet...Read More
Look out for Water Whisperers Tangaroa. this beautifully put together and refreshingly optimistic local doco is one of the most enjoyable films I've seen in months. Seeing an eco-doco so informative, entertaining, light of touch and unashameably Kiwi was a real treat - four stars, easy - a very accomplished and compelling film.
In this beautifully photographed film another ten stories of environmental redemption are told : from the Poor Knights Marine Reserve to the Hurunui and Rakaia Rivers, and including the wonderful Mike O'Donnell describing how a toxic Coromandel waterway was rescued from arsenic and effluent poisoning by sensible planting and community commitment. I don't often urge you to see anything from this pulpit but I do recommend you see Water Whisperers tangaroa during its brief stay in theatres. We'll all be better off if you do.
Water Whisperers Tangaroa could not have come at a more timely moment. It is a lyrical, spiritual and environmental exploration of New Zealand's waterways. It is subtle, sensitive and beautifully shot. A quietly convincing voice amid the clamour. It finds a middle way between the activists on all sides. An admirable, stunning looking and quietly convincing call for greater protection and care of New Zealand waterways. It is a compelling call that should be heeded.
